Verifying documents

Verify an identity document

Verify a passport, driver's licence, national ID or residence permit in VerifyPDF from a clear photo or scan, and see the details it extracts.

VerifyPDF can check identity documents such as passports, driver’s licences, national IDs and residence permits. Because these are physical documents, the process differs from a PDF bank statement.

Upload a clear photo or scan

Identity documents are verified from an image, not a “print to PDF”. For the best result:

  • Capture the whole document with all four corners visible.
  • Use even lighting and avoid glare on holograms or laminate.
  • Keep it sharp, with no motion blur, and at a resolution high enough to read the text.
  • Photograph it flat and head-on.

Accepted image formats are JPG, PNG and HEIC/HEIF. You upload it the same way as any other document, from the Documents page. See submit a document.

What VerifyPDF extracts

For supported identity documents, VerifyPDF reads:

  • Document type and issuing country
  • Document number
  • Expiry date

These show on the document’s detail page alongside the analysis.

Good to know

Identity-document checks focus on the visible document and its security features, so photo quality matters more than it does for computer-generated PDFs. If an upload is not a verifiable identity document, it is marked as an unsupported document.
